About The Position

The purpose of this position is to collect and test water samples and install, inspect, test, repair, and replace water meters and backflow devices. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Tests, repairs, and replaces water meters. Responds to customer inquiries or complaints. Performs routine flushing of fire hydrants and blow offs at dead end waterlines and other problem areas. Completes analysis and reports and documents information from inspections, testing, and maintenance. Maintains, calibrates and cleans all necessary equipment for jobs. Supplemental Functions: Performs other similar duties as required.

Requirements

  • Applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations
  • Utility Services principles and practices
  • Equipment and tools of the trade
  • Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License preferred or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire. Failure to obtain within 6 months from date of hire may result in termination.
  • Ability to obtain North Carolina Grade C Water Distribution Certification within six (6) months of hire. Failure to obtain within 6 months from date of hire may result in termination
  • Applicants must meet the City’s criteria for an acceptable driving record.
  • Reading and interpreting data
  • Operating a computer and applicable software applications
  • Operating testing equipment and instruments
  • Applying local, state and federal laws, rules and regulations
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

Nice To Haves

  • Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License preferred
