About The Position

The purpose of this job/class within the organization is to conduct technical maintenance, repair, and construction of City water and wastewater facilities. This job/class works under close supervision according to set procedures.

Requirements

  • Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
  • Requires one (1) year of experience in field utility maintenance, utility construction, or closely related experience.

  • Requires a Class B commercial driver's license, with air brakes and tanker endorsement with valid DOT medical card required or must be obtained within six (6) months upon appointment to the position.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain the following within the designated time frames listed below: Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Distribution Level III License within twelve (12) months of appointment to the position. Backflow Tester & Repair Certification within twelve (12) months of appointment to the position.
  • The position is subject to being "on call" and working after normal City work hours as well as on weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Repairs and maintains water and wastewater pipelines including locating mains services and sewer laterals.
  • Assists in resolving customer problems and complaints as well as installing and changing out meters; turns on and off service to customers for repairs and non-payments.
  • Conducts basic maintenance lubrication and repair of equipment, facilities, and tools; responsible for operating a variety of vehicles and equipment such as backhoes, dump trucks, and power and hand tools.
  • Conducts smoke and dye testing as well as cleaning, data recording, and repair of gravity sewer mains, manholes, and customer laterals.
  • Conducts construction and repair of roads, sidewalks, driveways, and general landscaping.
  • Responds to emergency sanitary sewer calls; resolves issues using specialized sewer equipment.
  • Exercises mainline water valves with an automatic valve exercising machine; flushes hydrants and blow-offs; enters flushing data; collects remote tap samples for analysis.
