Responsible for assigned aspects of the maintenance and operation of utility scale PV power plant. Duties include monitoring PV plant operation through SCADA, commissioning, testing, inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying AC and DC solar PV systems, including inverters, PV module arrays, transformers, switchgear, and metering systems. Additionally, this position is responsible for ensuring junior technicians are trained and competent under the defined technician competency level outlined in the NovaSource Technician Qualification Standards program. This role focuses on developing technicians’ skills in electrical troubleshooting, substations operations, preventive maintenance, and compliance with safety standards. The trainer will conduct on-the-job coaching, and qualification based training, ensuring that trainees can safely diagnose, repair, and maintain Utility Solar Systems, including PLCs, motors, BESS, switchgear, and control panels. This field-based position may require travel to different job sites in area to ensure technicians are assessed and deemed qualified within the area based on site-specific equipment and maintenance needs.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in Utility Solar Operations & Maintenance.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and develop team members through technical acumen.
  • Experience in operating and maintaining power plant electrical systems, SCADA and controls systems operation, troubleshooting advanced electrical components, and using procedures to perform equipment preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Electrical certifications, state, journeyman, etc.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in electrical safety and arc flash standards.
  • Ability to use training materials, OEM manuals, and OJT performance evaluations in the field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to follow operating, switching, maintenance, safety and environmental procedures.
  • Must have a strong safety background with experience in Lockout Tag Out and Job Hazard Analysis.
  • Working knowledge of industrial or power facility operation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of local and national electrical codes.
  • Proficiency reading and understanding Electrical schematics and prints.
  • Proficient at medium & high voltage switching.
  • Experience testing and troubleshooting medium voltage and high voltage equipment, including transformers, potential transformers, current transformers, breakers, relays, contactors, motors and inverters.
  • Capable of retrieving relay files and documentation.
  • Fully fluent in utilizing a CMMS system for maintenance tracking.
  • Proven computer skills in a Windows environment (Microsoft Office Products) is required.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to communicate in English both verbally and written.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
  • Ability to work independently with little to no direction within company compliance and work processes.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to complete NovaSource Technician Qualification Standards successfully within 90 days of hire.
  • Bending, kneeling, twisting, the ability to lift up to 70 pounds, the ability to climb ladders, and wear PPE for extended periods of time. Ability to work in high and low temperatures, sun exposure, and navigate on uneven ground on foot.

Responsibilities

  • Perform to quarterly key performance indicators, such as actual versus expected energy generation, on-time planned maintenance, and support overall plant and equipment efficiency.
  • Ensure a safe work environment by promoting strict adherence to company protocols.
  • Responsible for personal safety, quality and schedule adherence.
  • Conduct hands-on training sessions for maintenance technicians on Utility Solar systems, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Guide technicians in diagnosing and repairing electrical issues in industrial equipment and control systems.
  • Train on reading and interpreting electrical power systems, i.e. one-line diagrams, site documents, and wiring diagrams.
  • Provide on-the-job coaching to improve technicians' skills in Utility Solar and safety.
  • Teach proper preventive and predictive maintenance techniques.
  • Perform and document training and ensure compliance to Job Hazard Analysis, Pre-Job Brief and Lock-Out-Tag-Out procedures.
  • Train personnel in safety, environmental and procedural requirements.
  • Ensure all junior technicians follow OSHA, NFPA 70E, NEC, and local electrical codes.
  • Promote a culture of electrical safety awareness.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate on-site project planning, installations, commissioning, quality inspections, and performance testing.
  • Write and enforce work and equipment testing instructions and procedures, including normal and maintenance operating procedures.
  • Ensure work orders are complete in their entirety.
  • Prepare documents necessary for procurement and utilization of materials and vendor services.
  • Ensure all documentation and required reports are reviewed, complete, submitted and filed.
  • Attend, participate in and pass all assigned training in safety, environmental and other areas as assigned.
  • Maintain work area and site housecleaning to 5S standards.
  • Verify SCADA site configuration.
  • Adhere to Company vehicle maintenance standards and safety standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
