The Utility Service Representative III plays a crucial role in the maintenance and service of the water distribution system at Middlesex Water Company. This position involves performing meter service and installation, as well as system maintenance and repairs, under the supervision of various senior staff members including Foremen, Sub-Foremen, Inventory Control Specialists, and Senior Mechanics. In this role, the representative will be responsible for replacing, installing, troubleshooting, and repairing meters and remote reading systems. This includes the ability to field test meters and measuring elements, as well as removing them for shop testing. The representative will also perform all maintenance and repair functions on the water distribution system, which encompasses tasks such as hand excavation, jackhammering, backfilling, paving, pipe cutting, and fitting. Additional responsibilities include valve and hydrant repairs, snow shoveling, and plowing, all under the guidance of the jobsite Foreman. The Utility Service Representative III will also handle emergency and routine turn-off/on procedures and inspect for illegal and cross connections. Safety is paramount, and the representative must operate all tools and equipment safely while promptly reporting any needed repairs. Maintaining company-assigned vehicles in a clean and safe condition, along with ensuring an adequate inventory of parts, is also part of the job. Effective communication with other employees, customers, and the general public is essential to ensure a courteous and responsible service. Moreover, the representative will assist with transportation service work, which includes fueling vehicles, picking up parts, and securing the JRT Center. They will also support system repair work, which involves repairing, replacing, and installing mains, services, hydrants, and valves. Other tasks may be assigned by the Superintendents as needed, making this a dynamic and engaging position within the company.
