About The Position

The Utility Person at Pennsylvania American Water is responsible for supervising and participating in the locating, laying, repairing, and extending of underground water mains and distribution pipes. This role requires a self-driven individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is willing to work flexible hours, including overtime and on-call rotations.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Three years in construction, plumbing, or building trades.
• Valid Driver's License and ability to pass motor vehicle background check.
• Ability to obtain DOT Medical card.
• Skillful use of hand tools or machines needed for work.
• Ability to measure, cut, or otherwise work on materials or objects with great precision.
• Ability to read and understand instructions, safety rules, maps, diagrams, etc.
• Ability to write reports in proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic equipment.
• Knowledge of safety regulations in construction and plumbing.

Responsibilities

• Set up barricades and place safety lights around work site to protect workers from street traffic.
• Break up asphalt and concrete using pneumatic power tools for trenching and compaction.
• Manually dig valve boxes and curb boxes using shovel and digging bar.
• Guide pipe sections, valves, and fittings into position and hold pieces steady while worker tightens connections.
• Tap into pressurized water mains.
• Flare and connect copper and plastic piping.
• Install repair clamp on pressurized water mains and service lines.
• Operate valves and fire hydrants.
• Investigate complaints and determine corrective action per Company procedure.
• Operate pneumatic and/or hydraulic boring equipment.
• Complete all necessary forms, sketches, and field notes and be knowledgeable of usage of maps and records.
• Drive vehicles and/or trucks in performance of general job.
• Direct the activities of any personnel assigned.
• Perform any other duties that may be assigned by supervisor.
