The Utility Protection & Control (P&C) Technician I at Eaton is responsible for assisting the Lead Utility P&C Technician with technical oversight and documentation for testing and commissioning activities in energized electrical environments. This role involves hands-on participation in testing, ensuring safety and reliability in transmission and distribution systems, and communicating technical information effectively to various stakeholders.

  • Assist the Lead Utility P&C Technician in technical oversight and documentation requirements.
  • Work around energized electrical equipment to perform testing and commissioning activities.
  • Develop isolation plans and procedures for the removal of existing equipment.
  • Communicate technical information to non-technical personnel and educate customers.
  • Assist with testing of substation devices and equipment, including verifying voltage and current inputs, trip testing, and functional verification.
  • Identify and resolve design errors in engineering packages.
  • Witness or perform critical tests such as DC functional trip testing prior to energization.
  • Minimum 2 years of utility substation relay testing experience or currently enrolled in a 2-year relay testing technical program.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
  • Possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted driver's license.
  • Submit to initial and periodic customer required background and drug screenings.
  • Associates or Bachelor degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 5+ years of experience in utility substation electrical testing experience.
  • Transmission substation relay test experience.
  • Level 3 or 4 NETA or NICET certification.
  • Power distribution field experience in servicing, maintaining, and testing electrical power distribution equipment.
