Responsibilities

• Sets up and operates various machines to perform common operations such as buttwelding, grinding, cutoff, punching, forming, drilling a variety of special/standard work, wire-brushing, trucking parts/materials, straightens items such as beams, lance tubes, feed tubes and wallboxes.
• Receives work assignment, print, sketch and/or verbal orders/instructions from supervisor. Examines work order and print/sketch to determine operation sequence and inspection requirements.
• Operates press brake to form or punch material. Enters machine operating data to control panel such as bend length and ram stroke adjustment as required from established procedures.
• Weld preps, threads, buttwelds, grinds joints, and cuts suspension rods to length. Refers to set-up sheet for set-up information but may occasionally alter settings to meet varying conditions.
• Operates drill press or magnetic drill to drill holes in parts or material; sets up using prescribed tooling, speeds and feeds or according to standard practice.
• Cuts parts/material to length on stone saw or abrasive cutoff saw. Sets stop or measures and marks object to be cut using steel tape.
• May use torch to heat and straighten when required.
• Works under general supervision with guidance and direction available on new work and on setup and operating difficulties.
• Inspects own work in progress, but work is subject to in-process and final inspection by others.
• Removes sharp edges, burrs, slag, etc. from designated areas of wide variety of rough and semi-finished parts using pedestal grinder, wirebrush, gritblaster, powered hand tools, files, etc.
• Moves or delivers parts and materials using hand truck, hoist and/or overhead crane; assists other employees in handling/moving materials, etc., as directed.
• Frequently works on hydraulic press to straighten products/materials such as I-beams, lance tubes and feed tubes.
