About The Position

The Utility Operator is a vital member of the production team, responsible for the seamless setup, operation, and maintenance of the corrugator and unitizer equipment. This role ensures the high-quality finishing of products through precise banding and wrapping, while safely managing material flow using a forklift. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver committed to safety, efficiency, and continuous operational improvement.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read a tape measure with speed and accuracy; comfortable with high school-level math (volume, percentages, and measurements).
  • Ability to interpret "Factory Masters" (spec sheets) and follow complex written or graphic instructions.
  • Basic understanding of equipment design and production specifications to ensure efficient operation.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, and crouch. Must be able to handle materials frequently.
  • Excellent close, distance, and peripheral vision, including depth perception and color recognition.
  • Must be comfortable working in a high-decibel industrial environment with moving mechanical parts, occasional fumes, and varying temperature/humidity conditions.
  • Meeting annual benchmarks for safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Demonstrating professional communication and respect when assisting baler and forklift teams.

Nice To Haves

  • 6+ months of experience in a Press, Finishing, or Corrugated industry environment.
  • Proven experience as a certified Forklift Operator.
  • Actively contributing ideas to improve business processes.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate the unitizer, corrugator, and auxiliary equipment to meet production capacity and speed targets.
  • Apply accurate banding and stretch-wrap according to specifications; ensure neat stacking patterns and unit integrity.
  • Verify unit quantities, scan barcodes, and ensure proper placement of unit tags and cover sheets. Proactively remove excess scrap.
  • Locate and deliver stock to machines on time; remove finished goods to storage areas while maintaining orderly, safe stacks.
  • Perform daily safety inspections; operate the forklift with high precision to move stock and finished goods safely.
  • Identify and report equipment repair needs immediately; submit maintenance work orders to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain a clean, organized workspace in compliance with company safety policies and "Good Housekeeping" standards.
  • Complete accurate records for production data, machine status, safety incidents, and quality metrics.
  • Adhere to the production schedule and offer recommendations to optimize workflows for better cost-efficiency and quality.
