About The Position

We are looking for an energetic & dependable Utility Operator to join our team in the Charleston area. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately identifying, locating, and marking the position of underground utilities to ensure safety and prevent damage during excavation or construction projects. This role requires the use of your personal vehicle (with mileage reimbursement) to travel to various work sites, close collaboration with contract Supervisors, construction team, and public works officials. Pay will be based upon experience. Work schedule is 50 + hours per week (7am until), which may include a Saturday or Sunday.

Requirements

At least 1-3 years of experience in utility operations, civil infrastructure utility work, or relevant plant operations.
Experience in utility locating, construction, or a related field preferred.
Knowledge of various underground utility systems (gas, electric, water, telecommunications, etc.).
Familiarity with equipment such as electromagnetic and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) locators.
Ability to read maps, blueprints, and diagrams.
Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and environments.
Ability to stand/walk on hard surfaces for extended periods of time.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.

Responsibilities

Monitor, operator and maintain utility equipment associated with civil infrastructure
Use specialized equipment to locate and mark underground utilities such as gas, electric, water, and communication lines.
Read and interpret site plans, blueprints, and utility maps to identify the position of utility lines.
Communicate with contractors and site supervisors to understand excavation and construction plans.
Accurately record and report on utility locations using required forms and software.
Adhere to safety protocols to ensure no damage is caused to existing infrastructure.
Respond to emergency calls to locate and mark utilities for urgent excavation projects.
Conduct site inspections to ensure all utility locates are accurate and up to date.
