Our FCC Environmental - Pinellas County Waste to Energy facility (WTE) is currently seeking a Utility Operator for monitoring and operations of the Residue Processing and Storage Building and other auxiliary plant equipment from the field to maintain proper, safe, efficient, and continuous plant operations.  This individual would routinely conduct equipment inspections and perform operations tasks, maintenance and minor repairs to ash processing and handling equipment as well as ferrous and non ferrous metals recovery equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (accredited)
  • Previous experience working with large scale conveyor or material handling systems.
  • Mechanical abilities sufficient to perform equipment maintenance and minor repair such as replacement of wear parts, conveyor component replacements, conveyor belt tracking, rigging and tugging for clearing of obstructions as well as use of hand tools for removing and clearing entanglements on conveyor rollers and drive components.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts
  • Must be able to work overtime
  • Handle tools, equipment, and fine motor skills.
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, and climb
  • Ability to lift/carry 50lbs
  • Qualify to wear a full-face respirator
  • Consistently work in various weather conditions
  • Climb and walk on heights often greater than 4 feet.
  • Move about all areas of the plant, including catwalks, deck grating, and uneven surfaces.
  • Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, corrected or otherwise.
  • Operate a 1.5 inch fire hose operating at 125 PSI line pressure to the extent required to extinguish fire.
  • Operate fire extinguishing equipment ranging from hand held extinguishers to 200 lbs. portable units.
  • Access confined spaces and pressure vessels through standard 12” by 16” manways.
  • Negative pressure respirator.
  • Positive pressure respirator.
  • Chemical resistant suit.
  • Heat resistant outerwear.
  • Flame resistant outerwear.
  • Potential exposure to ash, dust, and chemicals.

Responsibilities

  • Under instructions of Shift Supervisor operate and maintain the Residue Processing and Storage Building (RPSB) for the purpose of processing all combined ash generated through operations of a large scale Waste to Energy facility.
  • Operates on station within the RPSB to closely monitor operations of a continuously operating materials handling system for the processing, sizing and screening of combined ash to optimize ferrous metals recovery as well as non-ferrous metals separation.
  • Adheres to all safety and environmental procedure and policy for safe and compliant system operations.
  • Compliance with all applicable facility permit programs such as energy control (LOTO), confined space entry and hotwork programs.
  • Obtains training and subsequently maintains high standard for equipment guarding and protection devices required for safe operation in proximity to industrial conveying systems.
  • Conducts Preventive Maintenance and routine operations tasks of all transfer conveyors, vibratory conveyors, scalpers, feeder/screeners, drum magnet and Eddy Current Separator (ECS).
  • Works in tandem with Auxiliary Operator responsible for conditioning of ash material, reports out on quality and consistency variations which can negatively impact processing and handling of the combined ash stream.
  • Works in tandem with Equipment Operator for load out of transfer vehicles from storage bunkers for sized and screened ash, +5” materials, ferrous metals and non-ferrous metals.
  • Recognizes and mitigates operating difficulties and adapt to changing plant conditions with regard to maximizing plant safety and efficiency, and minimizing down time.
  • Conducts comprehensive equipment “rounds” and system operations inspections per established frequency and per established procedure and standards.
  • Conducts starting, stopping and adjustment of systems and components as notified by control room operator and/or shift supervisor.
  • Completes emergent and assigned tasks as identified by shift supervisor and as established through operations routines.
  • Takes immediate action to address equipment upset conditions per training and established procedures.
  • Operates other plant equipment and systems with assistance and guidance from Shift Supervisor to ensure proper functioning such as overhead doors, fire protection apparatus and industrial cleaning equipment for housekeeping of assigned equipment.
  • Anticipates typical problems, identifies potential or recurring problems, and takes appropriate action.
  • Operates other equipment including, but not limited to, industrial forklifts, manlifts, skid steer type loaders, and other mobile equipment.
  • Works closely with maintenance to troubleshoot problems and assesses probable cause with assistance from Shift Supervisor and other members of rotating operations shift they are assigned to.
  • Maintains work areas in a clean, neat, and organized condition at all times.
  • Completes the Corporate and Plant Training Programs within the time frame prescribed.
  • Read and interpret data from meters, gauges, visual assessments and industrial measuring tools to identify trends and/or potential equipment disruptions that impact facility operations.
  • Communicates clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing; as well as communicates clearly whether using in-situ intercom system, two-way radio or face to face.
