About The Position

This is skilled mechanical maintenance and repair work in preventative and corrective maintenance to include installation and repairs of industrial equipment with plants of the water and waste water systems at treatment facility or lift station. An employee in this class is responsible for performing or assisting in the performance of a variety of assignments of routine difficulty involving mechanical maintenance at a municipal water/wastewater treatment facility. Since much of this work is to provide on-the-job training, tasks require employees to exercise limited initiative and independent judgment when participating in installing, modifying or repairing various types of mechanical equipment. A number of the more simple assigned tasks eventually become routine in nature as a result of participating in their completion; therefore, employees might work independently in those assignments as proficiency is demonstrated. The employees usually work under general supervision, receiving instructions both orally and in writing. However, for the more complicated tasks, immediate supervision will be provided. Some assignments of this class are hazardous, particularly when performing maintenance on electrical equipment. Work is reviewed while in progress through observation, conferences and oral reports submitted, and upon completion through results obtained.
