Utility Maintenance Mechanic 1: SUMMARY Mechanics are essential personnel for the maintenance and replacement of crucial equipment at various water and wastewater facilities. The job of the mechanic encompasses a wide range of skills and knowledge of motors, tools, supplies, and related machinery. The Mechanic I is an entry level mechanic position that performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks under the supervision of a Mechanic II or Mechanic III . A candidate for this position should possess basic to moderate aptitude. In addition, duties include, but are not limited to a variety of operations involving the inspection, diagnosis, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair and servicing of water and wastewater equipment, components, facilities and machinery. Class I Mechanics may reasonably expect to progress to class II level with training, experience, and continued demonstration of satisfactory job performance. A candidate for this position should possess an advanced to specialist aptitude. Incumbents at this level typically perform the more difficult and complex types of duties and provide lead supervision over assigned personnel. The Mechanic II is responsible for the maintenance of water well fields; pump stations, treatment facilities, and systems associated with production, transmission and treatment. Directly supervises class I Utility Maintenance Mechanics and Utility Workers. Implements and insures use of safety programs and safety equipment. Class II Mechanics may reasonably expect to progress to the Mechanic III level with training, experience, and continued demonstration of satisfactory job performance.
