Utility Locator Technician
About The Position
This position is responsible for locating water and sewer lines and other system components. Receives and processes locate request; closes work orders in GA 811 database. Uses electronic detection device to identify the location of water and sewer facilities. Assists contractors in locating water and sewer mains and valves. Responds to after-hours emergency requests. Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment. Maintain records of daily locates. Performs excavations as needed; lifts manhole covers. Performs related duties.
Requirements
- Knowledge of underground utility locating principles and practices.
- Knowledge of map reading principles.
- Knowledge of GA 811 policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of area streets and roads.
- Skill in interpreting engineering reports, maps, and construction drawings.
- Skill in the use of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skill in the preparation of reports.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
