About The Position

The Utility Locator I position is responsible for accurately determining and marking the locations of underground water utilities to prevent damage to the city's infrastructure. This entry-level role involves responding to requests for utility location, conducting investigations for damages, and ensuring compliance with city policies and standards. The position requires effective communication and collaboration with various stakeholders, including business owners and supervisors, to organize marking schedules and manage excavation projects.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• 1 to 3 years of experience in utility location.
• Valid driver's license.
• National Utility Locating Contractors Association (NULCA) Certification within 6 months of hire.
• Knowledge of city infrastructure and practices related to locating underground utilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general office practices.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with GIS software.
• Familiarity with excavation practices and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Meet with business owners and/or designated supervisors to organize marking schedules and locate large excavation projects.
• Locate underground water utilities and respond to Missouri One Call requests.
• Drive to sites to locate water lines/mains and respond to emergency dig up notifications.
• Read blueprints or engineering drawings to assist in locating buried water lines.
• Collect survey grade CPS coordinates for GIS mapping accuracy.
• Ensure legal compliance for city-owned water utilities and adherence to marking practices.
• Document work performed and conduct investigations for damages to city-owned infrastructure.
• Perform continuity tests of locate wires.

Benefits

• Starting salary of $18.23/hr - $22.43/hr, commensurate with training and experience.
