About The Position

We Energies is seeking Utility Laborers to assist in the operation, maintenance, construction, installation, and documentation of the natural gas distribution system in the Metro Milwaukee Area. This role involves a variety of tasks including installation and testing of meters, emergency response, and ensuring safety and compliance in field operations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, HSED, or GED is required.
  • Valid driver's license and must meet the company's driving requirements.
  • Must obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) within 90 days of entry into the job.
  • Compliance with DOT Commercial Driver's License (CDL) drug and alcohol testing requirements.
  • Reading, mechanical aptitude, and math skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of properties of natural gas.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and PPE requirements.
  • Situational awareness, problem solving, decision making, prioritizing work objectives, communication skills, dealing with irate customers.
  • Physical strength and manual dexterity, mental stamina, adaptability to extreme weather and working conditions.
  • Working knowledge of fire training, confined spaces, meter reading, construction and repair standards, and emergency response procedures.
  • Computer literacy and construction print reading.

Responsibilities

  • Installation and testing of meters.
  • Work at regulation stations.
  • Determine locations of company facilities based on GIS records.
  • Spot employees while moving vehicle equipment.
  • Hand digging and backfilling of excavations.
  • Installation of erosion control measures.
  • Cutting and threading steel pipe.
  • Preparation and inspection of material for installation.
  • Secure areas with cation tape, barricades, cones, flashers, plywood, fencing, etc.
  • Leak testing with soap and conducting inside and outside leak investigations including appliance safety inspections.
  • Emergency response and independently perform maintenance and preparatory tasks in support of field operations work.
  • Painting of company and customer piping/equipment.
  • Fabrication of threading and bolted piping assemblies.
  • Material stocking of supplies for in-field use.
  • CDL training and practice.
  • Operation of hand, power, and pneumatic tools.
  • Select and complete door hangers for customer communication.
  • Cleaning of tools and equipment, valve box painting and maintenance.
  • Identification of corrosion.
