Idaho Power — located in Pocatello, Idaho — is looking for a temporary Utility Laborer to join our Station Apparatus Crew. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power. What does a Utility Laborer do for us ? Assists with maintenance, inspections and other manual work on distribution and transmission equipment (such as transformers, switches, breakers, capacitor banks and reactors,) at Idaho Power facilities. Requirements

  • Knowledge of: Construction methods, materials, standards, and equipment
  • Ohms law, basics of the electrical trade and control wiring
  • The purpose of commonly encountered materials, parts, and equipment used in substation/utility construction or other utility projects
  • Safely load/unload, drive, and operate bucket, oil tanker, and boom trucks
  • Skills in: Basic use of personal computers
  • Use of test equipment and electrical meters
  • Interpersonal communication
  • Ability to: Perform basic arithmetic calculations
  • Learn to read and understand construction prints and specifications
  • Maintain effective working relationships with other members of a work team
  • Maintain neat, accurate, and legible records
  • Respond to emergencies in excess of normal working hours
  • Work overtime at the discretion of the supervisor
  • Education: High school diploma or GED
  • Experience: 1 year of general work experience that includes physical labor and utility experience OR An equivalent combination of appropriate training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Licenses & Certifications: Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position
  • Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card or ability to obtain prior to hire
  • Must have a current DOT FMCSA 49 CFR Part 383 Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to attain within 120 days of hire
  • Capable of acquiring a tanker endorsement
  • Complete DOT PHMSA 49 CFR Part 172 required hazardous materials employee training if a CDL with attached Hazardous Materials endorsement is required for the position.
  • May be required to complete a field skills assessment at time of interview.
  • Additional safety related training may be required.
  • Complete other required Company and safety training.
  • Must abide by Idaho Power Company's safety rules and regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Energy Systems Technology and Education (ESTEC) degree from ISU or another accredited university OR An equivalent combination of appropriate training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • 3 years of general work experience that includes physical labor and utility experience
  • 1 years of general work experience involving electrical work, mechanical work, and/or utility work
