About The Position

Description Department: Engineering Requirements Responsibilities: Inspect all phases of water and wastewater infrastructure construction from plan review and preconstruction meetings through completion to maintain compliance with plans, standards, and specifications, including federal, state, and local codes and regulations. Communicate with BSU personnel for the purpose of scheduling shut-downs, tie-ins, boil-water notices, flushing, walk-throughs, and other construction-related issues. Make recommendations to management regarding project shut-down or meter-holds due to non-compliance. Interpret construction plans, line extension rules and regulations and assist in altering plans to meet established standards. Maintain written reports and photos on all construction projects and document progress and plan deviations. Receive and investigate construction-related complaints. Inspect grease interceptors and other customer-maintained pretreatment systems upon installation and for the purpose of compliance; Attend training related to job function. Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of applicable laws, standards, regulations, and codes relating to utility inspection, and safety. Knowledge of equipment used to locate water and sewer lines. Knowledge of material testing procedures. Skill in reading and interpreting construction drawings plans and specifications. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships. Requirements: Valid Florida Driver’s License. High School Diploma or equivalent. 3 or more years of responsible inspection experience within a utility; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience. Applicants with a Water Distribution Level 2 and/or Wastewater Collection Class B certification preferred. Must possess, or complete within one year of hire date, Competent Person Training in excavation and confined space. Must possess or obtain within 3 years a Level 1 Inspector Certification for Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) from the Florida Industrial Pretreatment Association (FIPA). Must possess, or complete within one year of hire date, Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification.

Requirements

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 or more years of responsible inspection experience within a utility; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.
  • Must possess, or complete within one year of hire date, Competent Person Training in excavation and confined space.
  • Must possess or obtain within 3 years a Level 1 Inspector Certification for Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) from the Florida Industrial Pretreatment Association (FIPA).
  • Must possess, or complete within one year of hire date, Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Applicants with a Water Distribution Level 2 and/or Wastewater Collection Class B certification preferred.
