About The Position

The Utility Inspector I position involves performing technical engineering inspection work to ensure compliance with construction plans and specifications for water and sewer facilities. The role includes inspecting various structures, conducting tests, and maintaining records throughout the construction process. The inspector will work under supervision and is expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in their work.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least two years of related construction, installation, or sub-professional engineering work.
• General knowledge of methods, materials, practices, and techniques used in utility construction and surveying practices.
• Experience with computer equipment and software applications related to assignment.
• Knowledge of basic safe work methods and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the inspection of water and sewer mains for compliance with approved plans and specifications.
• Inspect wastewater treatment plants, water booster stations, sewage pump stations, and storage tanks to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Perform testing to ensure proper installation of facilities, including water and sewer mains and laterals.
• Conduct incidental inspections on water meter installations and sewer replacements.
• Field verify elevation of manhole covers and water valve boxes.
• Participate in monthly inspectors' meetings and teams as needed.
• Perform bond releases and close-out projects once they meet standards.
• Assist in record-keeping and maintain field changes that occur during projects.
• Prepare daily and monthly reports.
• Answer questions from in-house employees and the public regarding construction projects.
