About The Position

Maintains and supports the Utilities Department's Geographic Information System (GIS). Performs high level work in the data update, quality assurance and analysis of the utility's enterprise GIS and other integrated systems. The salary range for this position is $31.23 - $43.72 per hour with a hiring range of $31.23 - $37.48 , depending on qualifications and experience. Essential Functions: Creates or updates electric, water, wastewater, broadband and other GIS features based on construction drawings and/or field data. Works with and collaborates extensively with design staff, engineering and field crews to ensure accuracy and completeness of data. Maintains connectivity and integrity of utility’s geometric and utility networks. Interprets engineering modeling software to identify trouble areas in the geometric and utility networks. Independently coordinates data collection projects. Other Job Functions: Creates geoprocessing models and scripts as necessary to facilitate tasks. Creates and maintains professional maps and other information products as requested. Provides technical support and training for users of the utility's enterprise GIS and other software. Performs other duties as assigned. Job Level and Management Expectations:

Requirements

  • 4 years/Bachelor's Degree in GIS, Civil Engineering Technology, Geography or related field.
  • 3 years w orking experience with ESRI's product line.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Working knowledge of editing GIS data with current version of ESRI's ArcGIS.
  • Knowledge of editing geometric networks.
  • Knowledge of editing in a versioned geodatabase environment.
  • Read and interpret utility construction plans.
  • Determine assets in the field.
  • Cross train in other utility disciplines outside of assigned area.
  • Demonstrate ability to understand the functionality of a distribution system.
  • Create presentation level exhibits.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience working with digital work order tracking software.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year w orking experience editing with utility focused GIS software.
  • 1 year w orking experience reading and interpreting construction plans.
  • Working experience with construction design software
  • Working experience with electric, water, and broadband fiber-based GIS tools
