About The Position

We are currently searching for an experienced Utility Engineer to support our East Gulf Region located in Birmingham, Huntsville, and Tuscaloosa, AL. The position involves engineering design for various linear utility projects, including water and wastewater, electric, telecommunications, and natural gas. The role includes planning and management of various projects, overseeing and guiding designers and drafters, and applying established engineering techniques and procedures. Responsibilities also include performing design computations, checking plans, developing quantity takeoffs, and ensuring timely and cost-effective project completion. The Utility Engineer will participate in team development and communication, coordinate work with team members, and prepare transportation reports based on project analyses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • 1-5 years of design experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, GeoPak, OpenRoads, and InRoads
  • Ability to obtain EI Certification within a year
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) preferred
  • Utility experience preferred
  • Previous client relationships are a plus
  • Ability to work well with other related disciplines and coordinate design activities
  • Experience and ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment in solving work problems
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
  • Valid driver’s license
  • A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)

Responsibilities

  • Engineering design for various linear utility projects, including water and wastewater, electric, telecommunications, and natural gas

  • Oversee and guide designers and drafters to deliver linear utility projects
  • Perform design computations, check plans or computations, and develop quantity takeoffs
  • Adjust and correlate data, recognize discrepancies in results
  • Identify and analyze problems using reasoning to arrive at conclusions
  • Apply standard practices and techniques to accomplish work assignments
  • Understand and adhere to assigned phase and task schedules and budgets
  • Participate in ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies
  • Coordinate work to ensure best practices with all team members
  • Attend appropriate team meetings
  • Actively look for ways to improve performance within the organization
  • Prepare transportation reports and plans based on project analyses and assessments
  • Adhere to company standards for quality assurance and quality control
  • Work closely and effectively communicate with team members
