About The Position

The Utility Engineer will review utility engineering design and construction work plans to ensure that they comply with American Railway Engineering Maintenance Association (AREMA) and all railroad standards.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with electronic communication including e-mail and text, as well as standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program.
  • 0–3-years’ experience required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as an engineering intern in a related field.
  • Experience producing drawings with CAD software.
  • EIT (Engineer in Training) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct reviews of utility designs, engineering plans and/or construction work plans for compliance with AREMA and railroad client’s specific railroad standards
  • Utilize railroad client’s Valuation Maps and electronic GIS maps for calculating mileposts and stationing
  • Provide comments in approved format to Real Estate team and utility company within the contractually defined timeline
  • Escalate variance requests to Manager or client in accordance with standard operating procedures
  • Develop thorough understanding of real estate agreement/permits and all construction requirements and apply knowledge to all reviews
  • Develop relationships with client engineering departments
  • Track all submittals and responses in assigned project management systems
  • Participate in applicant requested meetings/conference calls as needed
  • Escalate complex or non-traditional issues to Manager of Utility Engineering
  • Work closely with project managers, Real Estate Specialist, Staff Services and protection service team to execute project deliverables
  • Conduct limited field observation on project sites before, during, and after construction
  • Other duties as assigned or required to meet the business needs
