The Utility Engineer, Lead serves in a lead capacity over engineers and all utilities related activities. This role involves maintaining records and data related to utility systems and facilities equipment, developing procedures and schedules for maintenance, inspection, and repair of systems and equipment. The lead engineer ensures smooth shift changes by meeting with outgoing and incoming shifts, reviewing events of the previous shift, and assessing the status of scheduled and unscheduled tasks. They assign engineers to best meet the daily workload and review performance and productivity data with the Manager of Engineering. Participation in leadership reviews for all engineers is expected, along with attendance at weekly department meetings to provide information to staff, prioritize tasks, review progress, and plan educational in-services. The lead engineer is responsible for providing training, education, and safety in-service to staff, sharing on-call duties to ensure department supervisory personnel are available at all times, and interacting with contractors as needed for major construction, renovations, remodels, and small projects. Additionally, this role involves operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting facility utility systems including steam, chilled water, hydronic loops, electrical distribution systems, vertical lift systems, medical gases, domestic water, pneumatic tube, and sewage systems.
