About The Position

The Utility Engagement Analyst supports QTS’s efforts to work effectively with electric utilities to ensure power capacity is delivered on schedule for its data center campuses. In this role, the analyst helps maintain productive relationships with utility partners, tracks utility‑related programs and requirements, and assists in coordinating activities that drive the development and execution of power infrastructure projects. This position works closely with internal teams, including energy leaders involved in utility contract negotiations, development teams planning new data center sites, and operations teams forecasting power demand—to help align utility planning with QTS’s broader business objectives. It is well‑suited for an early‑career professional who is eager to learn the utility landscape, contribute to cross‑functional projects, and grow within a fast‑paced technical environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 1-3 years of experience in energy infrastructure, or related project management.
  • Strong understanding of electric utility processes, including interconnection and transmission planning.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with external partners and internal teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% to utility offices and project sites.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in data center or large-scale energy infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and utility tariffs.
  • Knowledge of high-voltage transmission systems and substation development.
  • PMP or similar project management certification.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage relationships with electric utilities to secure capacity and infrastructure for QTS campuses.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for utility engagement, ensuring clear communication and alignment on project timelines and requirements.
  • Coordinate utility-related activities across development, operations, and energy teams to support new site evaluations and expansions.
  • Monitor and manage utility interconnection processes, agreements, and regulatory compliance.
  • Track and report on utility project milestones, risks, and deliverables to internal stakeholders.
  • Support negotiations for utility service agreements and infrastructure commitments.
  • Stay informed on utility policies, regulatory changes, and industry trends impacting power delivery.
  • Represent QTS in meetings with utilities, regulatory bodies, and industry forums.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining documentation, dashboards, and reports that support utility engagement programs.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize utility partnerships and accelerate capacity delivery.
