The Utility Custodian position at Clark University involves multiple shifts, including Sunday-Thursday from 7:00am to 3:30pm, Tuesday-Saturday from 7:00am to 3:30pm, and Sunday-Thursday from 3:00pm to 11:30pm. The role requires cleaning various campus properties such as classrooms, offices, restrooms, corridors, labs, bedrooms, and kitchens. Responsibilities include employing various cleaning methods, maintaining cleaning supplies, performing basic repairs on cleaning equipment, and ensuring the cleanliness of assigned areas. The position also involves snow removal and providing general security checks of buildings and grounds during cleaning tours. The Utility Custodian is expected to maintain a positive relationship with all members of the Clark Community and contribute to the overall success of the department by performing other essential duties as assigned.

  • Clean campus property such as classrooms, offices, restrooms, corridors, labs, bedrooms, and kitchens.
  • Employ various cleaning methods including washing, waxing, buffing, sweeping, polishing, dusting, and vacuuming.
  • Clean restrooms in a method that sanitizes and provides a fresh quality.
  • Remove trash and clean waste receptacles.
  • Replace bathroom paper goods, light bulbs, batteries, or any required renewable products.
  • Operate all types of cleaning equipment required to clean floors, carpets, drapes, and furniture.
  • Wash interior and exterior windows and other indoor and outdoor surfaces.
  • Maintain and perform basic repair for all types of cleaning equipment.
  • Keep assigned campus areas adjacent to buildings clear of trash, sand, and debris.
  • Shovel snow, operate snow blowers, and apply ice treatment on walks and entrances.
  • Maintain cleaning supplies and related inventory.
  • Provide visual checks for repairs or utility malfunctions and report findings.
  • Provide general security checks of buildings and grounds during cleaning tours.
  • Meet all appropriate work standards including punctuality and proper notification of absences.
  • Understand and work with waste recycling processes.
  • Move furniture, load and unload trucks, and support University events.
  • Participate in special cleaning projects.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the department by performing other essential duties.
  • 3 years of professional cleaning or facility maintenance experience.
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver's License.
  • Ability to lift 75lbs, bend, stoop, and twist on a daily basis.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to operate a fork truck (1C license preferred).
  • Ability to operate power tools for basic repair jobs.
  • Participate and meet all standards of required training programs.
  • Ability to work alone and with supervision and follow oral and written instructions.
  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Basic proficiency with web-based computer applications.
  • Ability to make general facility repairs.
