About The Position

The Utility Coordinator is responsible for coordinating utility phases during pre-construction and construction activities. The role requires a proactive communication approach and excellent relationships with utility owners in the west-central Florida region. With supervision and guidance from the Senior and Chief Utility Coordinators, the Utility Coordinator is responsible for coordinating utility phases during design and/or construction phase activities. Manage the coordination, documentation and relocation of utilities such as water, sewer, gas, electric, and telecom facilities associated with public works, transportation, and private development projects. The role ensures that utility conflicts are identified early, resolved efficiently, and documented in compliance with state and local regulations.

Requirements

  • Three to seven years of progressive utility coordination experience with FDOT, FHWA, and AASHTO standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of utility systems (water, sewer, electric, gas, telecom).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of FDOT processes.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation ORD/SS10, Bluebeam, FDOT PSEE, Adobe Acrobat.
  • A valid driver's license.

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or similar.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, monitor and ensure utility owner responsiveness in the preparation of utility work schedules and activities.
  • Perform utility distributions in compliance with FDOT Utility Accommodation Manual.
  • Participate in utility and roadway meetings to promote issue resolution
  • prepare status reports .
  • Perform constructability reviews with design and construction teams and participate in field reviews and walkthroughs during phase submittal reviews.
  • Review plans for biddability to establish whether a contractor can submit a competitive bid based on provided plans and specifications.
  • Act as liaison between engineers, contractors, governmental agencies, utility owners, and the public to resolve utility conflicts during design and construction.
  • Maintain accurate records of utility coordination activities.
  • Ensure all utility work meets safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • Draw on your expertise, and utilize your skills, in Reimbursable Agreements and Utility Work Estimates Utility Work by Highway Agreement Process CIAC BABA Requirements
