About The Position

AECOM is currently seeking a Utility Coordinator located in Fort Lauderdale, FL, to support coordination efforts among multiple clients (FDOT, county, and private), contractors, and third-party utility companies.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree plus 6 years of related experience, or AS Degree plus 8 years of related experience, or HS/GED plus 10 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency and/or education
  • Valid US Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review
  • Utility and roadway construction for the installation or relocation of underground and overhead utilities experience
  • Due to the nature of the projects associated with this position a valid US citizenship is required

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of utility and roadway construction for the installation or relocation of underground and overhead utilities
  • Knowledge and experience reviewing and understanding Utility Agency/Owner (UAO) design documents, utility specifications, and utility work schedules
  • Experience and proficiency in reading FDOT Roadway Plans, FDOT Utility Adjustment Plans, and UAO Construction Plans for water, sewer, gas, communications, and power
  • Knowledge of FDOT right-of-way and easement requirements related to railroads and utilities.
  • Experience and knowledge of the FDOT plans production process and utility coordination process.
  • Design-Build experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Office program applications
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation ORD/SS10, Bluebeam, FDOT PSEE, Adobe Acrobat

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a fully capable professional in the field with minimal direction.
  • Develops, builds, and maintains a positive and productive relationship with third-party utilities.
  • Works with the client to establish priorities, monitor progress and ensure compliance with the client’s goals and requirements
  • Applies advanced knowledge to develop design procedures software and tools to facilitate high quality cost-effective technical project activities develop and maintain project tracking systems for issues and resolutions, and address utility or roadway needs in a timely manner.
  • Participate in utility and roadway meetings to promote issue resolution, prepare status reports
  • Develops estimates of technical efforts for projects
  • Manages communication and collaboration with full design team and client
  • Conducts interdisciplinary review of project deliverables and develops estimates of technical efforts for projects
  • Oversees the development and implementation of technical approach and the completion of complex work which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity
  • Initiates and creates project designs and plans with responsibility for preparing presentation and design drawings
  • Prepares designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings and working drawings
  • Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment
  • May oversee the work of less experienced designers
  • Meets with clients and oversees all aspects of the project to ensure client needs are met
  • Providing utility coordination services for multiple projects with tight design and or construction schedules throughout the state
  • Acts as liaison between engineers, contractors, governmental agencies, UAOs, and the public to resolve utility conflicts
  • Oversee and provide guidance to utility coordinators and design consultants for utility, roadway, and railroad coordination efforts.
  • Coordinate with FDOT roadway design, right-of-way, survey, construction, and maintenance departments.
  • Coordinating with FDOT in preparing Utility Work by Highway Contractor packages (UWHCA)
  • Conduct utility coordination meetings, documenting meeting minutes, and maintaining files of all activities for each utility agency
  • Schedule and attend office, field, and Teams meetings with utility agency owners
  • Perform follow -up of meeting action items to assure effective coordination results
  • Lead and assist with preparation of contingency plans for unplanned utility events
  • Review FDOT utility permit applications and plans
  • Negotiate design consultant scope and staff hours
