About The Position

Crawford, Murphy & Tilly (CMT) is seeking a Utility Coordination Technician to join the Surface Transportation team on site in St. Charles, MO. This is not a remote position. CMT is a fast-growing firm with 500+ employees across 25 offices in 10 states, serving clients through four primary business groups: Aviation, Surface Transportation, Water Resources, and Building & Site Services. As a Utility Coordination Technician, the individual will play a key role in the design and construction of transportation infrastructure projects. The selected candidate should demonstrate leadership qualities, the ability to work as a team member or independently, and a desire to learn new skills and areas of expertise. The role involves serving the firm with support, coaching, and direction from CMT’s Surface Transportation Manager and technical leaders.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or two-year technical degree in Engineering Technology or related field
  • Equivalent experience in lieu of a degree will be considered
  • Possess general knowledge and understanding of the construction of transportation and civil infrastructure projects including the ability to clarify and interpret construction documents
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and CADD software for use in civil design projects
  • Strong ability to manage personnel and delegate tasks
  • Ability to independently and effectively manage time and work on multiple projects
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Must be willing to accept out of town travel assignments and work overtime to meet construction project demands
  • Must have valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship
  • Successful completion of a security background check which requires employment history, verification and criminal history records checks (if applicable) of individuals applying for security badges
  • Demonstrated responsiveness, professionalism, and teamwork

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of preferred experience
  • Previous utility coordination or locating experience, or internship experience, is preferred but not required
  • Transportation/Roadway related projects experience is not required

Responsibilities

  • Perform utility coordination phase services including onsite project observation and documentation tasks which may include supervising and directing junior staff in support of project managers
  • Serve as the engineer’s on-site liaison with utility company staff, utility locators, contractors and clients and assist the client when required for proper execution of the work
  • Perform utility One-Call locates, review in the field for accuracy and completeness, follow up to have missed locates completed, and fill in gaps in locates.
  • Coordinate with design team and surveyor to get the utility One-Call locates surveyed and incorporated into the design plans.
  • Perform necessary research of utility facility maps and project plans to determine potential utility conflicts.
  • Determine potential pothole locations and identify special utility needs like overhead line covers.
  • Work with utility engineers to schedule exploratory / SUE work and coordinate the work.
  • Verify the utilities shown on the plans are accurate and complete.
  • Perform utility locates of MoDOT utilities and miscellaneous locates as needed.
