About The Position

The City of Azle is in growth mode, and we are looking for an outstanding self-starter with strong customer service and multi-tasking skills to join our team as Utility Billing Specialist. Under general direction, and supervision of the Utility Billing Manager, has primary responsibility to provide customer service assistance to customers regarding a wide array of topics including, but not limited to programs and resources, activation, closing and transfer of accounts. Operates a multi-line telephone system and handles financial transactions in an efficient and accurate manner; serves as key public contact person in customer service area; assists in the day-to-day operations of the Municipal Court and Utility Billing/Customer Service functions, as may be required in the department. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must possess strong verbal, written and organizational skills.
  • Must be bondable, with the ability to correctly handle cash daily.
  • Ability to type 35 WPM; use a 10-key calculator by touch; PC experience.
  • Must be neat in appearance with good diction.
  • Must exhibit skills in effective public contact; ability to deal with customers in adverse circumstances with the ability to make decisions.
  • Sits, stands and converses for extended periods while assisting a constant stream of customers.
  • May be required to carry, hold, lift, push and/or pull a minimum of 35 pounds of computer paper and retrieve records and/or supplies from storage room.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of general business and clerical experience involving public-contact, preferable with at least one year of cashier/teller experience.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the proper routing of incoming telephone calls, using a multi-line telephone system.
  • Provides information and assistance to customers and the general public as may be necessary. Receives visitors and routes to other city offices as appropriate. Responds to other inquiries as needed.
  • Assists in the day-to-day operation of municipal court in the collection of court fines and other fees; using electronic cash register or PC. Under supervision may be responsible for preparation of correspondence; performs routine clerical duties as required. Assists the Judge and Prosecutor as needed.
  • Utility billing and collection process as may be directed by the supervisor; responds to requests for connection and disconnection of water, sewer and/or garbage services; collects utility payments for current and delinquent accounts; responds to customers' questions regarding utility services; assists in utility mailing process.
