  • Strong customer service and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to use standard office equipment and computer software required for the position.

Responsibilities

  • Perform clerical duties involving financial record keeping and transactions related to utility billing and collections.
  • Review, verify, and check the accuracy of routine documents such as water meter readings and utility bills.
  • Calculate payments due and determine correct accounting codes; enter transactions into the computer system.
  • Prepare billings and notices, and generate summary reports.
  • Maintain various computer databases and hard copy files, establishing, modifying, and deleting records as necessary.
  • Provide general information by responding to questions regarding routine utility billing matters.
  • Search databases and records to retrieve information and prepare periodic notices or special reports.
  • May operate cash register and handle returned mail; process bankruptcy notifications.
  • May approve arrangements for collecting delinquent accounts following established guidelines.
  • May provide functional supervision to clerical staff involved in accounting functions.
