About The Position

This is a continuous recruitment position SUMMARY: The Utility Associate is responsible for the washing and organizing of service ware, pots, pans, and utensils. The Utility Associate assists in general clean up, organization, and sanitation of the kitchen, serving areas, and dining rooms. RESPONSIBILITIES: In the assigned unit, this position may perform some or all of the following: Operations: Collects and washes soiled service ware, pots, pans, utensils, carts, and other cooking equipment. Maintains kitchen work areas, janitor closets, cleaning equipment, chemical storage areas, and service ware holding areas in clean and orderly condition. Restocks service ware and cooking equipment in designated areas. Sweeps, vacuums, shampoos, and washes floors, as directed. Cleans restrooms, loading dock, dumpster areas, offices, lobby areas, meeting areas, dining rooms, serving areas, and the kitchens. Cleans floors, walls, ceilings, windows, mirrors, and all other surfaces. Moves furniture and staging, and completes related tasks to set up dining rooms and meeting areas. Operates, empties, and cleans dishwashers, pot machines, floor machines, power washers, garbage disposal, food pulper, and other small cleaning equipment, according to established safety measures. Disposes of trash and waste materials according to established procedures. Restocks cleaning equipment including soap, sanitizers, and paper towels in all areas. Trains new employees. Performs other duties, as assigned. Additional Duties: Records information in all required logs; alerts supervisor to any discrepancy. Assists with stores operations, as needed. Assists staff and customers as needed. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT: This position requires long periods of standing and walking, and the ability to lift 50 lbs., in conditions that are often, hot, humid, or cold. Must be able to safely use and operate typical kitchen tools and equipment. Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, on occasion. QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of safe ware-washing and chemical-handling practices. Skilled in using effective time management to accomplish tasks. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and procedures. Ability to exercise flexibility and to work calmly and efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. Ability to provide a high level of customer service. Ability to monitor and maintain established quality-control standards. Ability to work cooperatively as a part of a team. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED. Prior custodial experience desirable. WORK HOURS: Full-time, non-exempt position Schedules vary; must be flexible to work AM/PM shifts, evenings and weekends with rotating schedules This position is designated as essential personnel and, during inclement weather and emergency situations is required to be available to the University as needed.
