About The Position

Perform scheduled preventive maintenance to minimize unplanned equipment downtime across all facility utility systems, with primary responsibility for industrial ammonia refrigeration, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, compressed air systems, incoming water and steam systems, and general buildings and grounds. This role includes installation, troubleshooting, and repair of a wide range of mechanical, electrical, and utility equipment to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable operation of facility infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Industrial Mechanics Degree or equivalent and 3 years' experience in Ammonia Refrigeration OR 5 years on the job experience in an Ammonia Refrigeration Technician position.
  • Must display strong communication skills.
  • Should be a good problem solver and strong team player.
  • Ability to stand, walk and climb stairs, up to 12 hours per day.
  • Must meet Maintenance Physical Abilities Evaluation requirements.
  • Must successfully complete all required training including lockout tag out.
  • Must have the ability to function in high stress situations.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test and background check are required.
  • Must pass pulmonary fitness test.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the entire ammonia refrigeration system, including valve groups, evaporators, vessels, compressors, condensers, purgers, pumps, and associated controls.
  • Perform rounds to observe and record temperatures, pressures, oil levels, and system performance indicators as required.
  • Support safe system operation using appropriate procedures including LOTO, hot‑work, confined space, and ammonia emergency response protocols.
  • Keep compressor/engine rooms clean, organized, and audit‑ready.
  • Observe, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair air compressors, dryers, filters, receivers, and distribution lines.
  • Perform PM tasks such as lubrication, filter changes, leak detection, belt inspection, and condensate handling.
  • Maintain facility incoming water systems, including pumps, RO units, softeners, valves, and associated instrumentation.
  • Maintain and repair steam systems, including boilers/generators, de‑aerator tanks, strainers, pumps, and steam/condensate piping.
  • Install, operate, troubleshoot, repair, or replace hydraulic and pneumatic components including motors, pumps, rams, valves, accumulators, hoses, and fittings.
  • Perform system pressure checks, leak identification, and component rebuilds as needed.
  • Cut, weld, and fabricate equipment using stainless steel and other metals as required.
  • Perform pipefitting and plumbing tasks using PVC, galvanized, black, and stainless materials up to 4" diameter.
  • Maintain buildings, grounds, facility structures, and utility spaces including equipment rooms, mechanical areas, and exterior grounds.
  • Assist in miscellaneous mechanical, electrical, or structural repairs throughout the facility.
  • Perform assigned HAZMAT duties related to ammonia response and chemical handling.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support continuous operations.
