About The Position

The Utility Technician will perform preventative and predictive maintenance on all Process Refrigeration, HVAC, Boilers, and Compressed Air equipment. Will run and operate the Boilers and associated equipment along with the Ammonia compressors, Condensers and Air compressors. Also, assists with Employee Participation Guidelines of the PSM Program for the operating facility.

Requirements

  • 2-4 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and operate ammonia compressors, condensers, fans, pumps, evaporators, plate heat exchangers and shell and tube heat exchangers
  • Understand and follow safe practices for ammonia and Freon refrigeration equipment
  • Install, repair, tear down and rebuild system components on all phases of refrigeration and heating systems in the plant
  • Evacuate all or any part of the ammonia refrigeration systems in the plant
  • Observe and test system operation, using gauges and instruments
  • Understand component controls and overall control of the system
  • Test lines, components, and connections for leaks
  • Dismantle malfunctioning systems and test components, using electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic testing equipment
  • Adjust or replace worn or defective mechanisms and parts, and reassemble repaired systems
  • Adjust valves according to specifications and charge system with proper type of refrigerant by pumping the specified gas or fluid into the system
  • Install wiring to connect components to an electric power source
  • Perform mechanical overhauls
  • Cut, bend, thread, and connect pipe and tubing
  • Keep records of repairs and replacements made and causes of malfunctions
  • Use/update SOPs, drawing mark-ups and logbooks to communicate across shifts
  • Maintain and operate an Energy Management System
  • Understanding of Process Safety Management System and regulations
  • Complete other tasks as needed
  • Maintain steam supply system including manual and automated valves, heat exchanger, and condensate traps
  • Maintain and operate high pressure boilers and feed water
  • Service traps and water feed for boilers and heat exchangers
  • Evaluate all parts of the steam or condensate systems and adjust as necessary
  • Dismantle and repair any malfunctioning components associated with the boiler systems
  • Take water tests, maintain chemical levels in the boiler, and adjust as necessary
  • Communicate and work effectively in a team
