About The Position

The Utilities Technician I - III position at the City of Seguin involves performing a variety of tasks related to the maintenance and operation of water and wastewater systems. This role includes the installation and repair of sewer and water mains, service lines, and fire hydrants, as well as conducting preventive maintenance on city vehicles and equipment. The position requires hands-on work in various conditions and may involve being on call as needed.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED.
• Ability to obtain Collections Level I license and CDL within an agreed-upon time frame.
• Collections Level I license from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
• State of Texas Class B (commercial) driver's license with air brakes.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and installation of equipment and materials associated with the Water/Wastewater maintenance and collection system.
• Deliver and erect barricades at designated locations and repair or replace broken lights on barricades.
• Use hand tools to dig ditches or holes and hand-shovel dirt, gravel, asphalt, or sand.
• Tamp, pack, and level dirt, sand, asphalt, or other materials.
• Load and unload materials and equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance on city vehicles, tools, and equipment.
• Maintain tools and shop in a neat and organized manner.
• Install water and sewer lines and repair leaks and broken lines.
• Work with jackhammer and air compressor.
• Operate various types of water tapping machinery depending on size and type of pipe.
• Install, replace, and remove water valves and water meters.
• Perform on-call duties as required.
• Unstop sewer lines and make temporary repairs to utility cuts in streets.
• Attend in-house and out-of-house Water/Wastewater Maintenance Department education and training sessions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Benefits

• Starting pay of $19.70/hour for Utilities Tech I (effective 01/01/2025).
• Salary for Utilities Tech II or III is dependent upon experience.
