Utilities Mechanic – JLL What this job involves: The Utility Mechanic/Stationary Engineer focuses on operating, maintaining, and repairing critical facility support equipment within our Utilities department. You'll ensure optimal performance of essential systems including high-pressure steam boilers, hot water systems, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, air compressors, water treatment systems, heat exchangers, and their supporting infrastructure. Your role is vital to maintaining the facility's research capabilities through reliable utility operations while working directly under the site Chief Utilities Engineer. What your day-to-day will look like: Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on utilities equipment and troubleshoot system issues, determining whether repairs can be handled internally or require outside contractor services Operate high-pressure steam and hot water boilers in full compliance with manufacturer recommendations and applicable permits and regulations Start and stop equipment to follow site heating and cooling load demands using building automation systems, including maintaining proper salt levels in brine tanks (requires lifting 50-pound bags) Conduct water testing and treatment for boilers and chilled water systems, ensuring compliance with the site water safety management plan while documenting all maintenance activities, equipment readings, building rounds, engineering logs, and incident reports Monitor fuel storage systems and maintain usage logs for various utilities in compliance with applicable regulations Control room operations requiring immediate response and corrective action to alarm conditions on a 24-hour, 7-day basis with backup support available Apply safety protocols consistently throughout all activities, including lock out/tag out processes and compliance with Environmental, Safety and Health programs

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of trades schooling in high pressure boiler and industrial refrigeration/HVAC operation and theory
  • 2+ years of experience in facility/plant engineering maintenance or school equivalent
  • Class 1 Stationary Engineers License
  • Valid Missouri driver's license
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing 35-50 pounds on a regular basis

Nice To Haves

  • EPA Universal Refrigeration License
  • OSHA 30 Hour Certification
  • Forklift, Scissor lift, and Aerial lift certifications
  • Experience with high pressure boiler theory, operation, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of chillers exceeding 500 tons capacity
  • Compressed air systems experience
  • Basic electrical knowledge and troubleshooting capabilities
