About The Position

The Utilities Supervisor is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation and maintenance of all plant utility systems. This role oversees daily activities related to boilers, refrigeration, compressed air, water treatment, wastewater, HVAC, and electrical distribution systems. The Utilities Supervisor leads utility technicians, ensures regulatory compliance, supports production uptime, and drives continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Third Grade Boilers License highly preferred.
  • (2) years Industrial ammonia refrigeration experience preferred
  • Must be able to read and understand electrical diagrams, blueprints, drawings, P&ID’s, and technical service manuals
  • HVAC experience preferred
  • Prior experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, electrical systems and PLC control systems.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance programs with a grasp of financial factors in maintenance.
  • Prior experience in food and beverage manufacturing environment with familiarity with GMP and food safety.
  • Must be able to work overtime, irregular hours, and/or rotating shifts scheduled by the Department Manager.
  • Ability to adapt to changing operational and organization needs.
  • Strong team player with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines.
  • Ability to assess, evaluate and solve problems.
  • Ability to develop relationships with business partners and to lead, coach and develop employees
  • Schedule flexibility to provide on call coverage.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • This position requires regular and prompt attendance during the working hours scheduled by the Maintenance Engineering Manager.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of utilities experience + supervisory experience
  • Ability to work in industrial environments with varying temperatures and noise levels
  • Must be able to climb ladders, work at heights, and lift up to 70lbs
  • May require off-shift, weekend, or on-call support
  • Constantly exposed to loud noises when on the production floor.
  • Experience in a food and beverage manufacturing environment with familiarity with GMP and food safety requirements preferred.
  • Ability to work in extreme environmental conditions for extended periods, including heat, cold, rain, snow, confined spaces, heights, and limited- movement areas.
  • Availability of working overtime, irregular hours, and/or rotating shifts as scheduled by the Department Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily operation and maintenance of plant utility systems, including: o Boilers and steam systems o Refrigeration systems (ammonia or Freon, if applicable) o Compressed air systems o Water treatment and wastewater systems o HVAC and electrical distribution
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and respond to utility-related emergencies
  • Ensure compliance and manage all requirements with all applicable regulations (OSHA, EPA, local/state agencies, food safety requirements)
  • Conduct audits and inspections of plant performance and activities related to PSM/RMP operations, programs, and boiler safety management.
  • Assist in creating, updating, and maintaining operating procedures and the operating procedure training matrix. Conduct training for facility personnel as needed.
  • Monitor and support training on operating procedures, including: o Annual reviews and certifications o Initial and refresher training
  • Ensure compliance with all safety programs related to utilities operation and maintenance, train employees and correct unsafe behaviors when identified.
  • Coordinate data retrieval, compilation, and reporting of process safety key performance indicators (KPIs). Maintain required permits, inspections, logs, and documentation for utility systems Coordinate preventive and predictive maintenance activities to reduce downtime
  • Manage contractors and outside service providers, including scope of work and safety compliance
  • Track utility usage and costs; identify opportunities for energy efficiency and cost reduction
  • Support capital projects and equipment installations related to utility systems
