About the position

The Utilities Project Engineer at Mott MacDonald will be involved in utility projects while also gaining exposure to various rail, roadway, and civil infrastructure projects. This role offers a diverse range of responsibilities and the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills within a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, studies, and designs for projects.
  • Receive objectives and technical advice from supervisor and project team leads.
  • Compile and compute a variety of engineering data.
  • Work collaboratively with the design team to develop detailed design documents for construction plans.
  • Perform relocation design of municipal and private third-party utilities on civil infrastructure projects.
  • Review interface designs against existing and proposed utility infrastructure and work collaboratively with various project teams to resolve conflicts.
  • Prepare plans, details, and develop engineering drawings, specifications, and other project deliverables.
  • Work with utility coordination staff that handle the dry utility relocations on projects.
  • Attend project meetings, and prepare agendas and meeting minutes.
  • Manage multiple unique assignments simultaneously.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Engineering-related degree
  • 5-10+ years experience in transportation or civil engineering
  • Engineering design background, preferably in utilities, drainage, roadway, land development, or municipal engineering
  • Proficiency with CAD, particularly MicroStation and OpenRoads
  • Registered Professional Engineer in good standing (or the ability to obtain a P.E in NC within 12 months)
  • Technical background and project experience demonstrating the potential to grow into a design role in the transportation field
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to prepare and present effective technical reports
  • Occasional travel and a valid Driver's License.
