Purpose To assist in supervising operation of facilities in a chilling station and electrical generation environment. Responsible for direction of the efforts of semi-skilled, skilled, and journey-level operators in the operation of mechanical and electrical systems. Supervise operation in absence of supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or GED.
  • At least three years related experience in the operation and maintenance of electrical generation or chilling station facilities combined with some supervisory experience.
  • Transition to Management Certificate (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office suite and other computer applications.
  • Comfortable in the use of data retrieval systems, process historians, and control system engineering pages.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • More than three years related experience in the operation and maintenance of electrical generation or chilling station facilities.
  • More than two years experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Experience operating power plant/chilling station equipment and electrical systems via computer systems.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assisting in the direction of the efforts of semi-skilled, skilled and journey-level craftsmen in the operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Assists in planning, supervising, assigning, scheduling, monitoring, training and evaluating the work of mechanics and operators.
  • Completes work orders using automated maintenance program systems.
  • Assists in after hour call outs.
  • Assists in supervising response to plant upset.
  • Supervises compliance with standards of workmanship and safety.
  • Prepares and submits reports.
  • Assists in the operation of industrial control computer systems.
  • Informs appropriate personnel of unusual conditions, problems or deficiencies.
  • Ensures compliance with the safety program.
  • Assists in troubleshooting system problems, which could require following detailed operational and maintenance procedures and ready system blueprints.
  • Drive UT vehicle.
  • Maintain acceptable driving record required by UT Systems Policy UTS157.
  • Assists in monitoring the performance of personnel to achieve optimum safety, reliability, and efficiency in the operation of the facilities.
  • Keeps current on and recommends change to operating procedures, new equipment and related systems.
  • Assists in monitoring the collection, review, and approval of log sheets using a PDA system.
  • Assists in performing detailed inspections of operating equipment, personnel activities, and plant facilities as necessary.
  • Notes and addresses deficiencies in a timely manner.
  • Determines and recommends most effective method of making repairs.
  • Operates all portion of the plants to place equipment on and off-line and adjust energy loads as necessary.
  • Arranges for the procurement of materials or services.
  • Follows all University and UEM safety policies and procedures, takes required safety training, and identifies and reports safety hazards.
  • Performs work tasks in a safe manner, wears the proper personal protective equipment, and reports near misses and incidents.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Attends staff meetings, safety training and meetings.
  • Attends plant operation and maintenance training courses.
  • Performs the duties of supervisor in his absence.
  • Performs the duties of operators as necessary.
  • Required to carry University cell phone during work and on-call hrs.
