Summary: The Mechanical Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of pumping systems, including motors, centrifugal pumps, condensate pumps, fans, and any other mechanical systems requiring repair or replacement at the BMS Devens site. Their role is to ensure that all mechanical equipment operates efficiently and reliably to support critical manufacturing processes and comply with regulatory standards. The technician will work closely with engineering, facilities, and quality teams to ensure that mechanical systems meet stringent safety and product quality requirements.

  • Participates in a detailed training program to develop expertise and train a cross functional team in mechanical system operations and maintenance.
  • Installs, inspects, and maintains mechanical systems, including centrifugal pumps, chillers, boiler auxiliary systems, and extraction systems, and works in conjunction with a cross functional team of HVAC, plumbing and electrical technicians to provide comprehensive support in making any necessary repairs to site equipment.
  • Performs diagnostics and repairs to mechanical and electrical problems in pumping equipment, heat exchangers, and other systems, ensuring minimal disruption to manufacturing operations.
  • Performs routine preventive and corrective maintenance on all required mechanical systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) standards.
  • Monitors operating parameters of all pumping systems in areas such as the chiller room, boiler room, cooling towers, and all heat exchanger systems located in different areas of the BMS Devens site.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and redline engineering blueprints, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), technical diagrams, and manufacturer's instructions specific to pharmaceutical environments.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of work performed, including service reports, maintenance logs, and regulatory compliance records.
  • Responds promptly to emergency service requests and troubleshoots problems in critical environments, such as the Boiler Room, Chiller Room, Cooling Towers, and other areas as needed.
  • Ensuring that all work complies with company policies, EHS safety procedures, and regulatory requirements (FDA, OSHA, EPA).
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to support facility projects, equipment upgrades, and validation/commissioning activities.
  • Maintains tools, equipment, and work areas clean, organized, and safe.
  • Daily contact with supervisory personnel for task assignment, guidance, and general management discussions.
  • Occasional contact with other management personnel is expected in relation to specific project responsibilities.
  • Daily contact with his/her supervisory staff for work assignments, coaching and general management discussions.
  • Occasional contact with other line management staff relating to specific project responsibilities may be expected.
  • Ability to interact and communicate directly with Operations staff to minimize impact to production activities.
  • Strong knowledge of Mechanical systems, components, and controls, including those used in GMP-regulated environments.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of complex Mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, schematics, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Familiarity with GMP, FDA, and other regulatory requirements for environmental controls in manufacturing.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and compliance.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and respond to urgent situations as needed.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, work from heights, and perform tasks in various facility conditions.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Mechanical Technician, preferably in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Professional trade licensure a plus (HVACR and/or plumbing/pipefitter).
