About The Position

The purpose of the class is to perform skilled work in the inspection, maintenance and repair of the County’s water and wastewater treatment plants, Pump Stations, and related equipment and facilities, and to perform other skilled and semi-skilled work as required. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed, and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.

Requirements

  • Requires high school diploma, GED or specialized vocational training; technical diploma is desirable.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a SC Commercial Driver’s license within six months of hire.
  • Class 'D' Water and/or Wastewater Operator licenses is preferred.
  • Requires one year of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects, maintains and repairs equipment and systems associated with the County’s water and wastewater facilities and appurtenances.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic plant equipment as scheduled; maintains related records.
  • Inspects, troubleshoots control panels, repair, pulling pumps, and pump stations to make sure all equipment are operating properly.
  • Assists with construction and installation projects as assigned and bio-solid operations.
  • Make taps at water distributions area and read water meters.
  • Operates heavy equipment including loaders, mowers, trucks and cranes.
  • Performs general building and grounds maintenance and repair work as required; maintains neat and safe shop areas.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate work records such as preventive maintenance and note deficiency and coordinate repairs with supervisor.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and standards of quality and safety.
  • Works on-call as scheduled to provide water/wastewater facility operation and maintenance after hours, during holidays and on weekends.
  • Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, complaints and requests for assistance from customers and the general public regarding areas of responsibility.
  • Respond and follow through with work order request.
  • Attends meetings, training, etc., as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills.
