About The Position

You will support Fluidstack’s data center team in its collaboration with local utilities and energy suppliers across the county. You will interact with local utilities, energy suppliers, consultants, design and engineering teams, data center end users, and equipment suppliers. Focus: Manage the full lifecycle of Power Development projects, from Initial Assessment and Feasibility, through Pre-Application, Engineering Studies, all the way to the Interconnection Agreement finalization. Support review and vetting of potential datacenter sites to assess viability of power delivery timeframes from the utility Manage relationships with local utility providers, energy suppliers, consultants, engineering teams, end users, and equipment vendors Lead negotiations on utility agreements, power pricing, and infrastructure needs across various markets Document the utility’s load interconnection process as it relates to any financial commitments, cost responsibilities, duration of the various steps of the process, and understand when power commitments are secured during the process Work closely with the design team to align utility capacities and timelines with overall project development schedules Manage the energy portfolio (physical and financial) to de-risk operations, enforce SLA requirements with Utilities, reconcile energy bills and find opportunities for rates improvements.

Requirements

  • Experience building or scaling energy/utilities functions in high-growth or startup environments; comfortable with ambiguity, limited initial resources, and building teams from scratch
  • Regulatory and policy navigation experience - participation in PUC proceedings, ISO stakeholder processes, legislative advocacy, or policy development that shapes favorable conditions for data center development
  • Experience with negotiating on-site generation for behind the meter and with future interconnection deals, as well as the correlated requirements for operations, maintenance, and financing options.

Nice To Haves

  • Energy trading, hedging, or commodities experience - portfolio optimization, demand response programs, revenue generation through grid services, or risk management strategies that demonstrate commercial/financial sophistication beyond basic procurement
  • Utility-side experience (prior role at utility, ISO/RTO, or public power entity) providing insider understanding of utility business models, constraints, and decision-making processes - particularly valuable for negotiation leverage
  • Deep expertise in target markets (ERCOT/Texas, NYISO/New York, or SERC/Southeastern utilities) with demonstrated relationships and deal track record in these specific regions
  • Regulatory and policy navigation experience - participation in PUC proceedings, ISO stakeholder processes, legislative advocacy, or policy development that shapes favorable conditions for data center development
  • Track record of innovative deal structures - first-of-a-kind agreements, creative solutions to grid constraints (co-located generation, powered land, hybrid models), or commercial frameworks that set industry precedent
