About The Position

The Illinois Department of Transportation seeks to hire Transportation Account Technicians. This position performs routine accounting work involving independent performance of complex transactions, utilizing the Financial Operating and Administration system (FOA) and Knowledge Lake scanning system. It is also responsible for the overview of obligation balances and verification of vendor certification through the accounting database maintained by the Illinois Office of the Comptroller (IOC). The IDOT team works diligently to provide safe, cost-effective transportation for Illinois in ways that enhance quality of life, promote economic prosperity and protect our environment. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two years of college and one year of technical accounting experience or four years of related clerical bookkeeping experience.
  • Requires successful completion of a background investigation and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Requires the ability to travel district-wide occasionally.
  • Requires an appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Requires occasional overtime; you may be requested or mandated to work scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime, which may include evenings and weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers one (1) year of experience utilizing standard accounting software applications such as Microsoft Excel or other comparable spreadsheet applications at an intermediate skill level.
  • Prefers One (1) year of professional experience applying established accounting methods and techniques.
  • Prefers one (1) year of professional experience applying state or non-state accounting procedures.
  • Prefers one (1) year of professional experience with office methods and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Independently performs technical accounting work in maintaining various accounts such as the 1200 and 1700 funds.
  • Develops and maintains detailed spreadsheets on utility expenses for the district.
  • Serves as a liaison to vendors answering phone inquiries and responding to written and email correspondence to answer questions and resolve problems relating to invoices, service questions, policies, rules, regulations, billing procedures, payments and other matters.
  • Confirms master agreements with municipalities are being followed and that invoicing is being done in accordance with the agreement.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
