Hiring decision is contingent upon applicant clearing checks. May work 4-10, 9-80, or alternate work schedule. Applicant required to successfully complete testing to lift/carry 78 lbs, pull 125 lbs, lift 2-45 lbs weights up a ladder, kneeling work in confined spaces, and other tasks. Purpose To perform journey-level skills in the installation of insulating materials in an electrical generation, mechanical or chilling stations environment. Responsible for providing journey-level craftsmanship in the installation, maintenance, and repair of insulating materials.

Requirements

  • Diploma (High School) or GED.
  • One year of experience as a laborer.
  • Experience performing stores work.
  • Skills using tools of the trade.
  • Skilled in using standard office equipment.
  • At least three years related experience as a journey-level insulator.

  • Experience working in an industrial or utility environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, repairs, modifies, and maintains insulating materials to existing and new plant equipment, systems, spaces, plant piping, and distribution piping in accordance with plant specifications and standards.
  • Repairs, installs, and fabricates removable insulation covers and insulation blankets for plant systems and equipment.
  • Repairs, removes, and installs brick and refractory in boilers.
  • Accuracy in all phases of work performed.
  • Works in conjunction with trades or craft personnel in support of systems within power plant, chilling stations, utility tunnels, and other campus shops.
  • Able to work in confined spaces.
  • Able to work on elevated areas, such as scaffolds, grating floors, catwalks, and ladders with appropriate fall protection as required.
  • May be required to erect scaffolding to perform work in accordance with industry standards.
  • Able to operate forklifts and personnel lifts.
  • Cleans and maintains all equipment and work areas.
  • Informs appropriate personnel of unusual conditions, problems, or deficiencies and takes appropriate actions.
  • Identifies and reports safety hazards.
  • Reviews and updates standards and specifications.
  • Requests material orders, receives, and maintains inventory of insulating materials, supplies and tools.
  • Able to obtain and maintain an Asbestos O and M Supervisor abatement license for use in removal and repair of Asbestos Containing Materials "ACM" in accordance with all governing laws and regulations.
  • Able to wear a respirator.
  • Maintains records of insulation work performed.
  • Verifies compliance with specifications and standards of workmanship and safety.
  • Attends job-related training and completes training modules.
  • Training certification required within 18 months.
  • Drive UT vehicle.
  • Maintains acceptable driving record required by UT Systems Policy UTS157.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned.
  • Attends staff, safety meetings, plant operation and maintenance training courses.
  • Trains fellow personnel on operational and maintenance procedures as required.
  • Required to carry University cell phone during work and on-call hours.
  • Follow all University and UEM safety policies and procedures, take required safety training, and identify and report safety hazards.
  • Perform work tasks in a safe manner, wear the proper personal protective equipment, and report near misses and incidents.
