About The Position

The Utilities Service Technician performs installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of water, wastewater, and treatment plant systems and appurtenances as assigned. This role is responsible for the fabrication, repair, and installation of equipment necessary for the proper operation of all systems. Work is performed under general supervision and is reviewed through the proper functioning of equipment, systems, discussion, and report analysis.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must maintain a valid Commercial class A Driver's License (CDL), including appropriate endorsements within three (3) months of position assignment.
  • Must maintain CPR and First Aid certifications within six (6) months of position assignment.
  • Must pass and maintain respirator fit test and Pulmonary Function test for respiratory protection.
  • Depending on the area of assignment, may be required to maintain one or more of the following certifications or licensures: FWPCOA Wastewater Collection C and Water Distribution System Operation Level 3 within two (2) years of position assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs water and sewer lines and related system components, including taps, valves, pumps, tanks, service lines, etc.
  • Inspects and evaluates condition of systems; diagnoses and corrects leaks, blockages, or other problems; clears debris from manholes, water and sewer lines, easements, valve boxes, etc.; performs confined space entries; cleans manholes and lines; and changes out sewer rings and lids.
  • Maintains lift stations; performs daily checks and preventative maintenance; monitors system operability and records, dials, and charts; performs routine adjustments and repairs in response to monitoring results; and receives, responds to, and resolves complaints of odors and noise at lift stations.
  • Gathers tools and equipment needed to complete work activities; picks up and transports materials, tools, and supplies; cleans and washes equipment and tools; performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs on tools and equipment as needed; and notifies supervisor of needed equipment replacements and repairs.
  • Performs related activities; repairs asphalt, concrete, yards, and other areas that are disrupted as a result of repair work.
  • Locates manholes, service connections, valves, and other utilities utilizing GPS and GIS maps; and enters and updates department database with location details.
  • Participates in emergency response and scheduled on call program.
  • Performs related work as assigned and assists other departments and employees as required.
  • Provides exceptional customer assistance, problem-solving, and/or complaint resolution by all forms of communication.
