About The Position

The Utilities Trainee position is designed for individuals who will be trained to oversee the safe operation and maintenance of large-scale Ammonia Refrigeration Systems and Steam Plants. The role involves assisting senior engineers in managing equipment in compliance with various regulations and codes. Upon successful training and licensing, the Trainee will fill vacancies within the department, gaining seniority from their start date. This full-time position requires availability for rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, and is part of a union.

Requirements

• Maintenance or Utility experience preferred but not required.
• Must obtain OSHA HAZMAT 24-hour certification within 90 days (company-paid).
• Must be willing to join RETA (Refrigeration Engineers and Technicians Association).
• Must obtain Rochester City License R4 within 13 months of start date (2080 hours required to take the exam per license).
• Must obtain Rochester City License S3 within 26 months of start date (2080 hours required to take the exam per license).

Responsibilities

• Oversee, operate, and maintain Ammonia Refrigeration, Glycol, CO2, Steam, and Air systems.
• Monitor, trend, troubleshoot, and repair all systems.
• Log hourly rounds on all pertaining equipment.
• Log into CMMS and complete work orders as assigned.
• Conduct water treatment and testing of condenser sumps, pasteurizers, and boilers.
• Communicate and log pertinent information to other operators, maintenance personnel, and supervisors.
• Assist with maintaining the PSM program.
• Provide Vacation Relief coverage once trained.
• Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and safety guidelines.
• Perform other various job duties as needed.
