About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Located at NC Correctional Institution for Women, this facility holds offenders from minimum, medium, and close custody levels. This positions will have contact with offenders and is located inside the facility. This position provides hardware and software support to users including but not limited to; Technical advice on software packages, LAN/hard disk back-ups for disaster recovery Hardware and software installation including disk formatting Gathering information on the user's situation, referring to manuals or documentation to resolve the situation, and relaying more technical situations to other technical professionals Trouble shooting basic and routine issues This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with https://oshr.nc.gov/state-employee-resources/benefits. The selected candidate will work Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm. Hours may vary at times depending on the business needs of the facility. Note to Current State Employees: State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result. North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (NCCIW), in Raleigh, is the state's primary prison for women. It houses the largest offender population in the state and serves as the support facility for the state's other female prisons. The campus-style facility sits on 30 acres of a 190-acre tract of state land in southeast Raleigh. NCCIW houses offenders of all custody levels and control statuses, including death row, maximum, close, medium, minimum, safekeepers and youth. It provides the primary medical, mental, and alcohol and chemical dependency treatment for female offenders. The facility operates a diagnostic center that serves as the point of entry into the prison system for women. Upon arrival, offenders undergo a series of diagnostic evaluations that will determine future prison assignments.

Requirements

  • Documented knowledge of providing hardware and software technical support
  • Documented knowledge using a tracking software database to create, resolve and close technical incidents.
  • Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification.
  • Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in the field of technology related to the position's role. Coursework in computer or information technology may be substituted year-for-year for the required experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
