As a User Experience Lead, you will have the opportunity to make an immediate impact within the GDMS Land and Air directorate working to solve the most complex engineering challenges of our times. As a UX Lead, you will be a member of - and have support from - a cross-functional Human Systems Engineering (HSE) team that includes designers, researchers, system architects, and engineers responsible for developing innovative solutions for the people that protect our country and allies. This senior role will require embedding into engineering teams to provide all phases of the UX process, from research to prototyping in addition to supporting the program through requirements gathering, documentation and customer communication. If you want the chance to lead, bring your talents to General Dynamics Mission Systems where you’ll provide advanced guidance and vision to the development of multiple products/systems through the creation, evaluation, and modification of prototypes, user personas, operational scenarios, and process maps to support product and system development, with emphasis on operational context, interaction, physical manipulation, and task analysis. Your expertise will help lead the development of specifications describing product/system requirements, based on user input and operational analysis and develop product/system design concepts and implementation specifications, providing context on usability considerations.

  • Managing stakeholder meetings, articulating solution requirements, and ensuring collaborative alignment between multiple disciplines including UX, engineering and our customers.
  • Alignment of UX throughout the Agile development processes (particularly Engineering Agile or SAFe development teams) with highly technical requirements
  • Leadership through the process of creating/refining complex requirements/standards and established design systems
  • Bachelor's degree in a related specialized area or field or equivalent is required plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Department of Defense Secret security clearance must be obtainable at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
  • Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Demonstrated leadership involving research and design with the strong ability to communicate UX / HFE requirements and methods confidently and concisely in a technical, engineering-intensive environment.
  • Ability to navigate between creative/design activities and technical/development conversations
  • Big picture perspective to anticipate problems and collaboratively problem-solve
  • Strong knowledge of UX best practices and testing methods
  • Advanced ability to interpret and visualize technical system diagrams and data
  • Experience presenting to large groups as part of a solutions team
  • Proficiency with JIRA, Confluence, wireframing tools (Axure RP is a plus), graphics tools (Adobe Creative Cloud)
  • Knowledge of government usability standards (ex: MIL-STD 1472H)
  • Space, defense, or military experience
  • Active clearance strongly preferred.
