About The Position

As a Staff Software Engineer with a focus on Back-End development, you will architect and build secure, scalable, and resilient systems that process large datasets and power AI/ML-driven applications. Leveraging expertise in Java, Kubernetes, SQL, Kafka, BigQuery, and integrating with Computer Vision & Artificial Intelligence (CVAI) platforms, you will deliver robust solutions supporting next-generation business capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on back-end development and demonstrated experience in technical leadership.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Java and microservices architecture.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes for orchestrating large-scale, resilient deployments.
  • Proven experience designing and managing large datasets using SQL and BigQuery (or similar data warehouse technologies).
  • Strong background in building secure, scalable data pipelines with Kafka.
  • Experience integrating with AI/ML frameworks and CVAI systems for model serving and data processing.
  • Familiarity with MLOps, AI/ML lifecycle management, and deploying ML models at scale is a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of security best practices, data privacy, and compliance in large data environments.
  • Experience with CI/CD, cloud platforms (GCP/AWS/Azure), and DevOps practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices and Walmart's accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, and implement scalable, secure back-end services and APIs using Java, with a focus on high-throughput and low-latency data processing.
  • Develop, deploy, and manage microservices on Kubernetes, ensuring platform resilience, scalability, performance, and reliability.
  • Design, optimize, and manage large-scale relational and analytical data models using SQL and BigQuery, supporting both operational and analytical workloads.
  • Build and maintain real-time, secure data pipelines with Kafka, enabling scalable data ingestion and processing for AI/ML applications.
  • Integrate back-end services with AI/ML pipelines and Computer Vision & Artificial Intelligence (CVAI) systems, supporting model training, inference, and continuous learning at scale.
  • Implement robust security standards, including authentication, authorization, encryption, and vulnerability mitigation across all components.
  • Collaborate closely with UI Engineers, Data Scientists, ML Engineers, and CVAI teams to deliver end-to-end intelligent solutions.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, promoting best practices in large-scale data processing, system design, security, and scalability.
  • Help foster an environment of innovation, collaboration, and engineering excellence both within the team and with the extended organization.
  • Collaborate with teams across the organization to identify common components, workloads, and best practices.
  • Ensure code quality, security, and performance through code reviews, testing, automation, and proactive monitoring.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, focusing on system reliability, rapid recovery, and operational excellence.
