About The Position

We are seeking a skilled Accessibility Engineer to join our team in either Sunnyvale, CA or Austin, TX. This is a hybrid position requiring 3 days a week onsite. The role is expected to last for 6 months and offers a pay rate ranging from $50.00 to $51.51 per hour. The Accessibility Engineer will be responsible for identifying accessibility issues in design mockups and proposing improved interactions. Additionally, the engineer will work on identifying accessibility issues in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and will be tasked with making code changes to enhance the accessibility of web experiences. The role involves prototyping accessible web experiences to demonstrate behavior and expectations to engineers and designers, as well as collaborating with cross-functional project teams including design, business, engineering, QA, analytics, and SEO. The engineer will also propose and work on innovative engineering solutions to accessibility problems, communicate issues and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and prepare and deliver keynote presentations to educate engineers, designers, and copywriters about accessibility concepts.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of the ARIA 1.2 specification
  • Working knowledge of the WCAG 2.2 specification
  • Familiarity with accessibility features such as VoiceOver, Hover Text, Switch Control, Voice Control, Invert Colors, Speak Screen, and Reduce Motion
  • Familiarity working with React
  • Familiarity working with git
  • 7+ years of experience in Web Application Accessibility Standardization and W3C WAI

Responsibilities

  • Identify accessibility issues in design mockups and propose improved interactions
  • Identify accessibility issues in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and propose improved code solutions
  • Make code changes to improve accessibility of web experiences using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Prototype accessible web experiences to demonstrate behavior and expectations to engineers and designers
  • Collaborate with cross-functional project teams including design, business, engineering, QA, analytics, and SEO
  • Propose and work on innovative engineering solutions that prevent, mitigate, or create client solutions to accessibility problems
  • Communicate problems and solutions to technical and non-technical people
  • Prepare and deliver keynote presentations to teach engineers, designers, and copywriters about accessibility concepts
