The (USA) Distinguished Software Engineer will lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable, reliable software solutions aligned with business objectives. About the team: Walmart Data Ventures operates with the agility of a nimble startup, focused on delivering best-in-class data products. The team developed Walmart Luminate, a platform providing actionable, customer-centric insights that empower CPGs and Walmart merchants to make informed, data-driven decisions efficiently and collaboratively. The group emphasizes technical strategy, reliability engineering, scalability, and cloud-native architecture to build innovative solutions. Members engage in operational due diligence and continuous improvement, fostering a culture of learning and excellence to support Walmart’s commitment to delivering value through advanced data capabilities and cutting-edge technology.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in software architecture, distributed systems, and scalable design patterns.
  • Proficiency in coding languages such as JavaScript, Python, and C, with adherence to coding standards and security best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud-native architecture and operational due diligence to ensure reliability and performance.
  • Expertise in requirement analysis, including functional and non-functional requirements, scoping, and estimation.
  • Proven ability to lead design and development of modular, extensible solutions aligned with business objectives.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, telemetry, and defect management processes.
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement and innovation in software development practices.
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 8 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and scope requirements to align solutions with business objectives, prioritizing features to deliver minimum viable products.
  • Design scalable, modular software architectures ensuring reliability, performance, and security across distributed systems.
  • Develop maintainable, testable code adhering to coding standards and optimize application functionality and usability.
  • Lead testing strategies, including test case development and execution, to ensure comprehensive coverage and defect resolution.
  • Oversee continuous integration and deployment processes, monitoring program health and driving improvements.
  • Conduct root cause analysis to identify and resolve defects, enhancing product stability and user experience.
  • Guide teams on technical decisions, fostering innovation and adherence to best practices.
