The Data Engineer position at Sam's Club involves a variety of responsibilities centered around data transformation, integration, and modeling.   • Extract data from identified databases and transform it to a relevant structure.
  • Help identify the most suitable source for data that fits the requirements.
  • Analyze complex data elements, systems, data flows, dependencies, and relationships.
  • Build and maintain robust and scalable data pipelines with internal and external partners.
  • Perform deep analysis leveraging customer datasets to build customer insights.
  • Improve best practices in sustainable engineering, producing high-quality code, documentation, testing, and monitoring.
  • Participate in medium- to large-scale, complex, cross-functional projects.
  • Translate project requirements into technical solutions.
  • Gather requested information such as design documents and product requirements.
  • Write and develop code, conduct unit testing, and communicate status and issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and troubleshoot open issues.
  • Create training documentation and train end-users on data modeling.
  • Oversee tasks of less experienced programmers and provide system troubleshooting support.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field and 3-5 years of proven experience as a Data Engineer or similar role in data management.
  • Or, a master's degree in computer science, Data Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field and 2-3 years of proven experience as a Data Engineer or similar role in data management.
  • Proficient in real-time and batch pipelines in big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Kafka, Cassandra, Elasticsearch, NoSQL databases).
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Scala, and Python.
  • Experience with workflow management platforms like Airflow or Hudi.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms like GCP and Azure.
  • Proficient in designing and building APIs.
  • Hands-on experience with PL/SQL to query data and generate insights using complex queries, stored procedures, and user-defined functions.
  • Familiarity with engineering practices in the analytics space using tools like Power BI and Tableau.
  • Experience with data modeling and data migration protocols.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience in data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analytics.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science or related field and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards and assistive technologies.
